Early Morning Bird Walk (On-Property)

The lodge grounds cover several acres of riverbank and garden habitat. The best introduction to what’s resident year-round. Tanagers, orioles, hummingbirds, parrots, and flycatchers are regulars. Expect 30–50 species. Included for guests staying at the lodge.

Birding Southern Belize Tour (Toledo Habitats)

Takes you into different habitat zones surrounding the lodge — secondary forest, edge, farm mosaic, and river corridors. The most productive tour for species diversity. Targets include trogons, motmots, and antbirds.

Scarlet Macaw Tour (Cockscomb Basin)

45 minutes from the lodge, this hosts one of Belize’s most reliable Scarlet Macaw aggregations. Steve times this tour to macaw activity windows. Expect 60–80+ species including raptors along the Maya Mountain ridgeline.

River & Coastal Wildlife

Explore the Monkey River banks for crocodiles, turtles, birds, and howler monkeys. Combine it with a trip to the coastal mangroves to encounter curious manatees in the turtle grass beds.

Birdwatching seasons

December to April (Dry Season): The primary migration window. Species diversity is highest (residents + migrants), trails are easier to walk, and Scarlet Macaw aggregations are most reliable.

July to August (Mini Dry Season): Active breeding behavior and territorial singing. The lodge is quieter, allowing for highly focused, personalized birding lists.

May–June & Sep–Nov (Wet Season): Birding is still productive in the mornings, but expect afternoon rain and more challenging trail conditions.
